Fostering adult dogs

You can choose to foster one of two ways:

1. foster with a view to adopt or,

2. foster a reserved dog waiting for a home in Germany.

How does it work?

If you are interested in fostering with a view to adopt, please visit our 'Adopt' section for available dogs waiting for homes and fill in the adoption questionnaire to get started.

If you are just looking to foster, we have a number of dogs in promotion for adoption in Germany. These dogs are in active promotion and are therefore reserved and unavailable for adoption however they are waiting in the shelter or in kennels and will be so much happier in a home. While in your home, we ask that you send us lots of videos and photos of them to add to their promotion. This usually helps them get adopted so much faster and it is such a great thing to see them afterwards, happy in their forever homes they wouldn't have been in if it wasn't for you.

If this sounds like something you would like to be part of, please click here to email us so that we can send you the foster questionnaire.

Fostering puppies

Choosing to foster a puppy is a wonderful and selfless thing to do. When puppies are dumped in the shelter, they are too young to vaccinate which leaves them vulnerable to infections and diseases they easily pick up at the shelter. The only way they can really be safe is to take them into foster care and shield them from the dangers of the world until they are old enough and ready.

If this is something you are interested in helping us with, please get in touch below. When applying, you can ask as many questions as you like and you will be told whether the pup in question is reserved for a home. This means that the puppy is in promotion with an adoption team and will not be available for homing. Your job is to keep it safe and help it live to see a happy life forever. Fostering cats and kittens

There are always cats and kittens in need of fostering. You can either foster with a view to adopt or foster a kitten that will be homed abroad. It is guaranteed that the kitten will be adopted and it would be great to have some regular foster families to take the kittens in. It is such a wonderful experience to be part of, taking in an animal in need and helping care for it until it is ready to travel onward to its home. You get to be part of something great and hopeful.

If you are interested, please email us here or take a look at the cats available for foster here.

Fostering FAQ:

Q. Do I have to pay for food and vets bills?

A. We would expect any foster to cover the costs of food although special medical diets will be subsidised by the charity. You will not be able to pay for any vets bills but, for this reason, you need to take your foster to a vet of our choosing. If you take your foster to your own vet, you will need to cover the costs.

Q. What happens if I want to keep my foster dog?

A. It is very easy to fall in love with your foster but depending on our arrangement, it may not be possible to keep them. If your foster dog is reserved for Germany, it will likely have a home ready and waiting.

Q. I want to foster but don't know if to foster an adult or a puppy?

A. Speak to us, we are happy to discuss and answer any questions you may have.

Q. What if I don't have my own transport?

A. It is important you have your own transport if fostering. If you do not, please make this clear to the team, Gibraltar is a small place and someone on the team may live close to you.
