Ireland Team News & Playing 11

Ireland's batting will depend mainly on William Porterfield, Paul Stirling, Andrew Balbirnie and Kevin O'Brien. Porterfield and Stirling are likely to open the batting and the onus will be on them to take their team off to a good start. Porterfield is their leading run-getter in ODIs overall as well as the leading ODI run-getter at this ground and the skipper will be expected to lead from the front. The hosts will also be looking forward to a strong batting display by Stirling who has 7 centuries and 18 fifties in the format. In terms of bowling, Ireland will look to their reliable options in Boyd Rankin, Barry McCarthy and George Dockrell to take wickets and put pressure on England. McCarthy has 13 wickets in 7 ODIs at Dublin - the most by any bowler at this venue - while left-arm spinner Dockrell is one Ireland's highest wicket-takers in the 50-over format with 89 wickets.

England will bank on their stalwarts Joe Root and Eoin Morgan to deliver the goods with the bat. Skipper Morgan has scored the most runs for England in ODIs - 6069 runs which includes 11 centuries and 38 fifties. Root is not far behind with 5090 runs and he will be looking to start off his World Cup preparation with a big knock. The visitors, however, will want James Vince to set the tone for them in the absence of regular openers Jonny Bairstow and Alex Hales. Jofra Archer, Liam Plunkett and Adil Rashid will be the biggest threats for the Irish batsmen when it comes to bowling. Archer will be making his international debut for England and he will look to give his all to stake his claim in England's final World Cup squad. Rashid has been one of the team's most consistent white-ball bowlers over the years and the leg-spinner could spell trouble for Ireland.

England and Ireland have played nine one-day internationals against each other in the past. Seven of those have been won by the former and one by the latter while one of the matches had to be called-off due to rain.

The two teams have faced each other twice at this ground in the fifty-over format. England won the first of those encounters by six wickets in 2013 while the second which was played in 2015 resulted in a washout.

The last time these two teams came face-to-face in an ODI was in May 2017 at the Lord's in London where England emerged victorious by 85 runs.

England are favorites to win this one-off one-day international at 1.05 with Betrally and 1.07 with Betway and Bet365. Ireland are the bookmakers' underdogs for this game and they are being offered at a higher price of 7.50 on Betway, 8 on Bet365 and 7.25 on Betrally.

England are the world's best ODI team and they should be able to win this match without much problem. Having said that, they were expected to blow away Scotland last season but ended up losing instead, and that will make Ireland optimistic going into this game. The Irish do have the benefit of playing in their own conditions but their ODI record at this ground is a very poor one. Also, the hosts have been able to beat England just once in the eight completed ODI meetings with them. Although the visitors are without some of their first-choice players like Jason Roy, Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes, they are still much superior to Ireland in all facets of the game and we expect them to begin their World Cup preparations with a big win.
